About Village Taipei

Taipei Village hopes to discover a new soft power of the city by producing diverse and rich urban memory through ideas of multiple integration, creative development and sustainable living.

Taipei Village is an entry website of URS (Urban Regeneration Station) that broadcasts information related to the Village and things that are happening in the city. It is an organic broadcasting station for everyone.

Taipei is a political and financial center that are mixed with traditional and modern. To turn this city into a cultural center in Asia, it requires a pioneering plan and design that attracts talents from different cultural disciplines to produce multiple and compound spaces across the old and new areas of Taipei, such as by moving in and making their own studios and galleries in the city.

It is especially important for a degrading and old community to improve its infrastructure and content by increasing cultural spots and media studios. Via cultural events and the media, Taipei will become a top city of design and cultural creative industry and the cultural center of Asia.

Under the impact of a global trend of sustainable development, major cities in the world have been reconsidering their strategies of urban planning. Under the pressure of urban population growth, sustainability, and knowledge economy, major European cities such as London and Amsterdam have now turned their focus on urban planning back to the city centers after massively developing the sub-urban areas in the twentieth century. Now they aim at redeveloping the old city into a diverse and compound space. In Asia, the Robbonki skyline in Tokyo is overwhelmed by the incredibly high density of lavish apartments. Hong Kong intends to reassure its economic status in Asia and to gradually transform into a cultural gateway.

As for the Gangnam district in Seoul, South Korea, they simulate the pattern of European cities and wish to promote its national profile by presenting good urban living qualities.

So, what is the future blueprint for our Taipei? What kind of strategies we need in order to compete with big cities worldwide? By bringing cultural creative industries? By improving living qualities? By producing a climate of multi-cultural atmosphere? By making a sustainable green city? Under the background of fewer built-up areas and massively aged old buildings, what is a feasible strategy that can internationally promote a newly reborn Taipei?

Taipei Village hopes to discover a new soft power of the city by producing diverse and rich urban memory through ideas of multiple integration, creative development and sustainable living. The station helps the city to speak for itself and narrates its own stories; furthermore, it is a spot that shows citizens’ daily and living culture, immerses cultural events in the community, and generates endlessly a local voice of Taipei. Here, Taipei Village is making a voice of its own!
